Somaliland MPs visit London at invitation by UK counterparts

Feb 05 2008 (Somaliland Net) - Hargeysa,15 MPs from Somaliland's Lower House (Parliament) left Egal international Hargeysa airport yesterday for London on the invitation of the UK parliamentary All-Party group committee which campaigns for the recognition of Somaliland inside the UK parliament, and is headed by Michael Alun and Kathy McCarthy.

The 15 MPs from Ucid, Kulmiye and Udub parties represent the Lower House Cross-Party select committee in Somaliland's parliament and are travelling to the UK as part of the two countries parliament's cooperation scheme, which was embarked on last year's visit to Somaliland by the UK parliamentarian All-Party group.
The Somaliland MP delegation is led by Huseen M. Ege, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select-House Committee who briefly spoke to SL Times in the VIP departure lounge of Hargeysa airport.
"The main purpose of our visit to the UK is to establish how we can work with our counterparts in the UK, and to further strengthen the cooperation of the two institutions. There will be 15 of us leaving today and four more Somaliland MPs, already in the UK, will join us once we reach London," said Ege.
Travel costs for the 15-member delegation were provided by Somaliland's Central Bank after receiving instructions for payment from President Rayale.
